“Since having such a positive experience from the midwives, I am finally pursuing my dream to go to university to become a midwife. I want to give women the same amazing experience as I received.”

I was admitted to Medway Maritime Hospital on the 23 December to have my labour induced. This was my second pregnancy but my first induction. I was on the antenatal ward for three nights, so I spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day there. I could not fault the staff, they always kept me up to date with what was happening and when I would be able to go over to the delivery suite to have my waters broken. I even got a little Christmas gift from the ward which was lovely!

Even in these awful times of the pandemic, I never felt alone. Staff were always there when I needed something or just to check if I was feeling okay.  On Boxing Day morning, I was transferred to delivery suite.  I was met by the midwife Nicky who made me feel at ease the moment I arrived.  I had my partner there with me, but he wasn’t sure what to do with himself so was in and out of the room, leaving Nicky as my only support. I could not fault her. My labour ended in an emergency c- section. We were given time on our own to make each decision and felt that this route was best for both me as well as the baby. My little boy, Roman, was born on Boxing Day evening, weighing a big 9lb 13oz. Nicky stayed beyond her shift to welcome him which I was so grateful for.

On the postnatal ward, I couldn’t fault the staff. They were so helpful and supportive for the two days I was in there. From Pearl ward, to Delivery Suite and then to Kent ward, the staff were all amazing and I had such a wonderful experience.
